The Schines Theatre in Auburn, NY is a historic Art Deco movie house built by the Schine brothers in 1937. In recent years it has fallen on hard times, leading to an opportunity for Bowers Development to renovate the building. Asbestos and lead paint plagued the structure, which was in danger of demolition before it was acquired. When renovations are complete, the 30,000 square foot theatre will become a civic center, hosting movies, plays, concerts, and public events. The project will create 84 full-time jobs and hundreds of construction jobs along the way.
